A tandem skydive pair hanging under an open canopy high above Lake Wakatipu with the Remarkables on the horizon

Nine options, three questions. The picker below scores every combination on this site: three tours at three exit heights, which is nine ways to book a tandem jump.

The first tap is exit height, tied directly to freefall length. The operators state up to 25 seconds at 9,000 feet, up to 45 seconds at 12,000 feet and up to 60 seconds at 15,000 feet.

The second covers where you jump and how you get there: the NZONE drop zone at Drift Bay by coach from 35 Shotover Street, Wanaka Airport under your own steam or via the i-SITE shuttle, or Wanaka with the return transfer from Queenstown.

The third is budget, using the 9,000 feet entry prices each operator sets and the NZD ladder above them.

One firm rule cuts the field early. Both operators limit children 12 and under to a maximum height of 9,000 feet, so only the 9,000 feet options suit younger jumpers. The minimum age is 6 on every listing.

The picker does not rank anything. It narrows the nine options by your own answers, and the sections below fill in the details the tool leaves out.

Two people in jumpsuits seen from behind tightening harness straps on a bench inside a hangar at an airfield

A shortlist of two or three options is where the finer rules start to matter.

Weight is the first check. NZONE sets a 40 kg minimum; Skydive Wanaka sets 30 kg. Both operators assess jumpers of 95 kg or more at the drop zone, and Skydive Wanaka asks that Reservations be told beforehand. Skydive Wanaka charges surcharges payable at check-in: NZD 50 at 95 to 104.9 kg, NZD 75 at 105 to 114.9 kg and NZD 100 at 115 kg or more.

Your calendar matters if the transfer tempts you. The Queenstown-to-Wanaka return transfer runs Monday, Wednesday, Friday and Sunday from 19 October 2026, so on other days the Wanaka jump means making your own way there.

Then the clock. NZONE advises about 3.5 hours from check-in to return, and its terms suggest planning for a whole day. The 3-Hour Wanaka Skydive runs around 3 hours. With the return transfer from Queenstown, allow up to 6 hours. Weather can stretch any of these, and the transfer listing advises booking your first available day and keeping a spare day free.

Finally, check the meeting point against where you are staying. Two of the three options start at 35 Shotover Street in central Queenstown; the third starts at Wanaka Airport.

Three listings, two drop zones, and nine ways to book. Queenstown Tandem Skydive compares two operators: NZONE Skydive, jumping at Drift Bay on Lake Wakatipu, and Skydive Wanaka, jumping at Wanaka Airport, with a return-transfer variant from Queenstown. Each listing sells 9,000, 12,000 and 15,000 feet exits, which is where the nine options come from.

The tiles above summarise what the booking pages show. Entry prices start at USD 210.16 for the 3-Hour Wanaka Skydive at 9,000 feet, USD 215.27 for NZONE Skydive and USD 221.25 for Wanaka Skydive, Transfers Included, all in USD as displayed. NZONE carries 4.7 across 1,479 reviews and the Wanaka skydive 4.8 across 295. All three tours include free cancellation up to 24 hours before departure.

The minimum age is 6 on every listing. Weather decides whether a jump goes ahead on any given day, and rebooking comes before any refund.

Treat these tiles as a snapshot, not a verdict; the live booking page has the final word. The figures are what the booking pages state, plain differences in price, duration and review counts. What suits one traveller depends on altitude preference, transfer needs and how much time they have, questions the sections below work through in order.

Every from-price on this site is the 9,000 feet entry point. Each operator publishes that figure alone, so the headline numbers to compare are USD 215.27 for NZONE Skydive, USD 210.16 for the 3-Hour Wanaka Skydive and USD 221.25 for Wanaka Skydive, Transfers Included, all in USD as shown on the live booking pages. Higher exits are priced by the operators in New Zealand dollars.

The operators' official from-prices match at the base. NZONE and Skydive Wanaka both list NZD 379 at 9,000 feet, NZD 469 at 12,000 feet and NZD 575 at 15,000 feet. The ladder table shows the full run.

The transfer variant carries a premium. Skydive Wanaka prices the jump with a return transfer from Queenstown at NZD 399, NZD 489 and NZD 595 across the three heights. That NZD 20 difference at each step buys the return transfer: check-in at the NZONE Skydive Centre, 35 Shotover Street, a coach ride of about 1.5 hours each way to Wanaka Airport, and the trip back. The operator runs this service Monday, Wednesday, Friday and Sunday from 19 October 2026, with the coach scheduled from 6.45am, and advises allowing up to 6 hours for the whole outing.

Currency needs care. The operators publish prices in New Zealand dollars, all prices per person. Any USD figure beyond the 9,000 feet entry price shown on a listing is derived on this site from the exchange rate implied by those headline numbers, and is labelled as such.

The ladder runs in one direction: pick your exit height first, because that sets the NZD figure at both operators, then decide whether Wanaka with a transfer is worth the NZD 20 step, then check the USD entry price with the operator before you book.

What Each Step Up In Height Costs

The NZD column makes the steps plain. Moving from 9,000 to 12,000 feet costs NZD 90 more per person at NZONE and at Skydive Wanaka, on top of the NZD 379 entry price. Moving from 9,000 straight to 15,000 feet costs NZD 196 more. The transfer variant follows the same shape: NZD 399 up to NZD 489 up to NZD 595.

What The Extra Height Buys In Freefall

Both operators state freefall as "up to" figures. At 9,000 feet it is up to 25 seconds. At 12,000 feet, up to 45 seconds. At 15,000 feet, up to 60 seconds. So the NZD 90 step to 12,000 feet roughly buys double the freefall time, and the further step to 15,000 feet adds up to another 15 seconds. NZONE quotes the freefall speed at 200 km/h.

What The Operators Charge

The USD figures in the ladder for 12,000 and 15,000 feet are derived, not listing prices, and are marked that way. The NZD figures are the operators' official from-prices. The booking page may show a different price for a given day, and the booking page is the authority.

What Is Not In These Prices

Photo and video packages sit outside every price on the ladder. NZONE Skydive and the Wanaka Tandem Skydive Experience do not include photos or video: both operators sell them as add-ons at check-in, priced in New Zealand dollars. The table below those packages sets out each option.

One more cost can appear at the Skydive Wanaka drop zone: weight surcharges, covered in the comparison section.

Tandem pair landing in a paddock near Kingston

The pattern across the two operators is close to parallel. NZONE offers Handicam at NZD 220, Freefall at NZD 333 and the Ultimate Combo at NZD 395. Skydive Wanaka offers Essential at NZD 220, Freefall Photos And Video at NZD 333 and Ultimate at NZD 395. In both cases the NZD 220 tier is a wrist camera operated by the tandem master, the NZD 333 tier adds a dedicated freefall camera flyer, and the top tier combines both.

Photo and video packages are add-ons, paid for at the drop zone check-in. Photo and video are not included with NZONE Skydive or the 3-hour Wanaka Skydive; both sell them as add-ons at check-in. Operator prices above are per person and include GST, as stated on the operators' pages. NZONE says its Handicam, Freefall and Ultimate Combo packages are booked at check-in. Skydive Wanaka notes its Essential package can be pre-booked, with a refund if the operator cannot provide it.

A tandem skydive pair in freefall over a braided gravel river valley ringed by snowy peaks

There are catches worth knowing. The freefall camera-flyer packages cannot be pre-booked at either operator: NZONE states Freefall and the Ultimate Combo are subject to availability on the day, and Skydive Wanaka says the same for its Freefall Photos And Video tier. Only one person can be filmed in freefall at a time at Skydive Wanaka. NZONE endeavours delivery of edited footage within 24 hours under its terms.

Two smaller points from the fine print. The Wanaka Ultimate page gives conflicting photo counts, so confirm before you book. And copyright stays with the videographer at both operators: your footage is licensed for private use only.

Check-In On Shotover Street

An NZONE day starts at the NZONE Skydive Centre, 35 Shotover Street, Queenstown 9300. One point matters straight away: bookings carry a check-in time, not a jump time. The operator tells customers to plan for a whole day, with the stated run at about 3.5 hours from check-in to return. Hotel pickup is not included with NZONE Skydive.

Paperwork, Briefing And Gear

Before anything leaves town there is a medical questionnaire, then a briefing with your jumpmaster. Gear is provided: jumpsuit, gloves, hat and goggles are included. NZONE asks for government-issued photo ID on arrival at the drop zone, and closed, secure shoes.

The Coach To Drift Bay

A courtesy coach transfers you from Shotover Street to the drop zone at 786 Kingston Road, Drift Bay, on Lake Wakatipu. The shuttle is included in the price. Self-driving is possible, but NZONE requires everyone to check in at the Skydive Centre first anyway. The drop zone has limited parking and a temporary access road, so the operator's pickup page says to look for its signage 600 m before the usual entrance off SH6.

“Nzone are really well organised: it was a very smooth check-in in their office in town, and at the airstrip. All the staff that helped us were really friendly, and my tandem instructor was really calm, friendly and respectful.”
Liz_A, review of NZONE Skydive

Climbing To Altitude

At the drop zone the flight to altitude takes 15 to 20 minutes according to NZONE's prices page, with its FAQ putting about 15 minutes on the 15,000 feet exit. The Remarkables and Lake Wakatipu are part of the view from the jump, not the climb.

Spectators can come along on the coach free of charge if bus space allows, NZONE states, with a maximum of one per jumper and no guarantee of a seat.

The Freefall And The Canopy

NZONE quotes freefall speed at up to 200 km/h. Duration is stated as "up to" figures: 25 seconds from 9,000 feet, 45 from 12,000 and 60 from 15,000. After the parachute opens, NZONE puts canopy flight at 3 to 4 minutes.

Landing

The two operators finish differently. NZONE's pages do not state where the canopy flight lands. Skydive Wanaka lands at a private working farm near Wanaka Airport, a spot with no safe viewing area, so the operator points friends and family to the airport base instead.

“It was such a breathtaking experience, amazing and terrifying at the same time. The instructors were so nice and comforting and they’ve all done thousands of jumps.”
Baleigh_I, review of NZONE Skydive

The Wanaka Version Of The Day

Without the Queenstown transfer, the day opens at Skydive Wanaka, 14 Mustang Lane, Wanaka Airport. Travellers make their own way or use the Wanaka i-SITE shuttle point at 103 Ardmore Street, selected at booking, arriving 10 minutes early. Check-in is when photo and video packages can be bought. The experience starts with a full safety briefing, gearing up with jumpsuit, frap hat, goggles, gloves and harness, plus lockers for valuables. Then comes a scenic flight of roughly 20 minutes to altitude over the Southern Alps, with call-outs of Mt Cook, Mt Aspiring, lakes and the Clutha River. After landing you return to the hangar, hand back the gear and wait for the edited video and photos.

Getting Back And Total Time

The NZONE coach returns to Shotover Street. The transfer-included Wanaka day rides back to the same centre. Totals: about 3.5 hours for NZONE, around 3 at Wanaka, up to 6 with the transfer.

Queenstown Drop Zone Skydives From The NZONE Skydive Centre

A tandem skydive pair under an open canopy over Lake Wakatipu with the Remarkables behind
1 tour, from USD 215.27 per person

Check-in for the NZONE Skydive listing happens at the NZONE Skydive Centre, 35 Shotover Street, Queenstown 9300, and a round-trip coach from there to the drop zone is included in the price. Hotel pickup and drop-off are excluded. The coach runs out to 786 Kingston Road, Drift Bay, on Lake Wakatipu, where the jump itself takes place.

Self-driving is allowed, though anyone who does must still check in at the Shotover Street centre first. Parking at the drop zone is limited, and the operator's pickup page warns of a temporary access road about 600 metres before the usual entrance off SH6, so watch for the NZONE signage.

NZONE operates seven days a week, per its FAQ. The operator also states it runs two Cessna Grand Caravan aircraft, with each plane holding up to 9 customers. From pricing, NZONE Skydive starts at USD 215.27 per person for the 9,000 ft entry jump, with 12,000 ft and 15,000 ft options priced higher. The listing carries a rating of 4.7 across 1,479 reviews, the largest review base among the three skydive listings compared on this site.

“Amazing experience. Had our first ever skydiving and it was one of a lifetime experience. Wish i could do it again.”
Louela_M, review of 3-Hour Wanaka Skydive

Allow about 3.5 hours from check-in to return, weather permitting. The itinerary on the booking page runs through a medical questionnaire and jumpmaster briefing at the centre, the coach ride out, the flight up, the tandem freefall harnessed to your tandem master, and the parachute ride down, ending back at Shotover Street. All safety equipment is provided, and the operator supplies jumpsuit, gloves, hat and goggles. Views named on the operator's pickup page include The Remarkables and Lake Wakatipu.

Every booking carries a check-in time rather than a jump time, and NZONE advises planning for a whole day. The jump needs good weather; if it is cancelled, the operator offers a different date or a full refund. Free cancellation applies up to 24 hours before departure.

Who can jump with NZONE? The eligibility rules are set by the operator. Minimum age is 6, minimum weight is 40 kg, and minimum height is 1.2 m, with the requirement that the harness fits. Children 12 years and under are permitted to skydive from a maximum height of 9,000 ft, in NZONE's wording, and every child is assessed on the day by the Tandem Master. There is no stated maximum age; the FAQ references passengers up to 94 years.

Weight above 95 kg means a Tandem Master assessment at the drop zone, and over 110 kg brings an extra assessment by the Drop Zone Safety Officer or Tandem Master. NZONE publishes no surcharge amounts. Under-18 jumpers need written parental or guardian consent, and the terms add that a parent or guardian must be present at the drop zone unless consent documents are arranged with staff beforehand.

Plain jumpsuits and helmets hanging on timber pegs along a hut wall with boots beneath

Transport is the coach from Shotover Street. NZONE lists no hotel pickup, so factor in the walk or ride to the centre. Spectators travel free if bus space allows; the operator does not guarantee space, allows one spectator per customer, and excludes them from the last trip of the day. Infants and baby carriers are not carried on the buses.

Photos and video are paid add-ons bought at check-in, not included in the tour price. NZONE's packages in NZD including GST: Handicam at NZD 220, Freefall at NZD 333 with a dedicated camera flyer, and the Ultimate Combo at NZD 395 combining both. The Freefall and Ultimate Combo options cannot be pre-booked and depend on availability on the day. Personal cameras and smart glasses are not allowed on the jump, which NZONE attributes to an NZPIA safety requirement.

Cancellation is free up to 24 hours before departure; within 24 hours the full fee applies. A booking stays valid for 12 months from the original departure date.

Wanaka Drop Zone Skydives, With Or Without A Queenstown Transfer

A tandem skydive pair dropping through the air above Lake Wanaka and the Southern Alps
2 tours, from USD 210.16 per person

Skydive Wanaka's base sits at 14 Mustang Lane, Wanaka Airport, about 10 minutes from Wanaka township. The jump leaves from the airport and lands at a private working farm nearby, a detail worth knowing before you invite people along. Views named by the operator include Lake Wanaka and Mount Aspiring, also called Tititea.

Two listings cover this drop zone on this site. The "3-Hour Wanaka Skydive" shows from USD 210.16 per person at 9,000 ft, carries a 4.8 rating across 295 reviews, and runs around 3 hours. You make your own way to the airport base, or select the Wanaka i-SITE shuttle pickup at 103 Ardmore Street when booking; the operator asks shuttle passengers to arrive 10 minutes early. No Queenstown transfer on this listing.

The second listing, "Wanaka Skydive, Transfers Included", wraps the same jump in a return coach from Queenstown, departing the NZONE Skydive Centre at 35 Shotover Street. It shows from USD 221.25 per person at 9,000 ft, allows up to 6 hours door to door, and carries a 4.7 rating from 3 reviews, a small count to weigh when reading that figure. Its rating is not comparable with listings carrying hundreds of reviews.

“Well organized. First time skydive from 15000 ft. The colleague are very professional and friendly. Also there are many interactions from the coach. Great experience. If u never tried skydive, this is a must do experience.”
WANQIAN_Z, review of 3-Hour Wanaka Skydive

The flight to altitude takes roughly 20 minutes over the Southern Alps, per the booking page itinerary, with call-outs of Mt Cook, Mt Aspiring, lakes and the Clutha River along the way. Both operators offer all three exit heights: 9,000, 12,000 and 15,000 feet. Photo and video packages are sold as add-ons at check-in rather than included. Both listings allow free cancellation up to 24 hours before departure, and both note the jump depends on favourable weather. Minimum age is 6 and minimum weight is 30 kg, lighter than NZONE's 40 kg.

The Queenstown Transfer

The transfer listing meets at the NZONE Skydive Centre, 35 Shotover Street, in central Queenstown. The ride to Wanaka Airport takes about 1.5 hours each way. Skydive Wanaka runs it on Monday, Wednesday, Friday and Sunday from 19 October 2026, with departures scheduled from 6.45am, and advises allowing up to 6 hours for the entire experience. The higher from-price buys that return leg: the operator's NZD prices run NZD 399, NZD 489 and NZD 595 at the three heights, an NZD 20 step above the Wanaka-only prices at each one.

Tandem skydive pair under canopy above Lake Wakatipu western shore

Weight And Surcharges

Skydive Wanaka sets minimum weight at 30 kg and minimum height at 1.2 m. Over 95 kg means an assessment at the drop zone, and the terms ask travellers over that weight to tell Reservations before the jump date. The booking page shows surcharges payable at check-in: NZD 50 for 95 to 104.9 kg, NZD 75 for 105 to 114.9 kg, and NZD 100 at 115 kg and over. Skydive Wanaka's own website states no amounts at all, so the figures come from the tour page only. Children 12 and under jump from a maximum of 9,000 ft.

Spectators And Observers

Friends and family are welcome at the airport base. There is no safe viewing at the landing farm, as the operator puts it, so spectators stay put at Wanaka Airport. Anyone hoping to ride along in the plane cannot: everyone aboard wears a parachute, so observers cannot fly.

Jumpers walking out to a jump plane at Frankton Arm

Experience And Weather

Skydive Wanaka describes 30+ years of operation. On weather, the operator jumps only in daylight hours when conditions are good, with no jumps in strong wind or complete cloud cover. The advice is practical: call 30 minutes before your booking time to check. Rebooking to a later slot comes first; a full refund follows only when no other date can be arranged.

Photos And Cancellation

Photo and video are add-ons at check-in. Skydive Wanaka's NZD packages start at NZD 220 for Essential, NZD 333 for Freefall Photos And Video, and NZD 395 for Ultimate. Free cancellation runs to 24 hours before departure.

The table below lines up the three tours side by side: NZONE Skydive from the Queenstown drop zone, Skydive Wanaka on its own, and the same Wanaka jump with a return transfer from Queenstown. Three listings, two drop zones, and one shared meeting point at 35 Shotover Street for two of them.

Some rules match across the board. Minimum age is 6 on every listing. Children 12 and under are capped at 9,000 ft by both operators. Free cancellation applies up to 24 hours before departure on all three, and every jump depends on the weather on the day.

The differences are where the decision gets made. Minimum weight splits: NZONE requires 40 kg, the Wanaka listings 30 kg. Getting there splits harder. NZONE includes its coach from the Shotover Street centre seven days a week, per its FAQ. The Wanaka-only listing means driving yourself or selecting the Wanaka i-SITE shuttle at booking, with transfer days not stated. The Wanaka-with-transfer listing runs four days a week from 19 October 2026. Time to allow ranges from around 3 hours at Wanaka, to about 3.5 hours for NZONE, to up to 6 hours for the transfer option.

Jump plane climbing above Glenorchy

Spectator rules differ too, from NZONE's free-but-not-guaranteed bus seats to Wanaka's airport-base-only arrangement. The table restates these as each operator and listing present them, without ranking one over another.

Start With Weight

The table shows NZONE's minimum of 40 kg against Skydive Wanaka's 30 kg. Anyone over 95 kg faces a Tandem Master assessment at the drop zone on any listing. The weight surcharge row shows amounts only as they appear on the booking page for Skydive Wanaka: NZD 50, NZD 75 and NZD 100 at 95, 105 and 115 kg, payable at check-in. NZONE states none.

Then Transport

If you are staying in Queenstown without a car, the NZONE coach and the Wanaka transfer listing both leave from 35 Shotover Street. The transfer listing runs four days a week from 19 October 2026, so check your dates against that schedule. The Wanaka-only listing suits travellers already near Wanaka or happy to arrange the i-SITE shuttle at booking.

Then Your Time Budget

The table's time row is the honest one: around 3 hours for Wanaka alone, about 3.5 hours for NZONE, and up to 6 hours once the Queenstown transfer is counted. A tight itinerary points away from the transfer option.

Harness check beside a jump plane at Lake Wakatipu

Finally, Spectators

Bringing someone who is not jumping? NZONE offers a free bus seat if space allows, one per jumper, not on the last trip, and never guaranteed. At Wanaka they are welcome at the airport base but cannot watch the landing farm. Skydive Wanaka states that observers cannot fly. Read the table's rows against your own group, weights and dates, and the choice usually narrows itself.

Both operators sell three exit heights: 9,000, 12,000 and 15,000 feet, on every listing compared here. The highest jump either operator sells is 15,000 ft above ground, and Skydive Wanaka notes it does not tandem skydive from above that height, which at Wanaka works out to 16,100 ft above sea level. The operator attributes the ceiling to NZPIA rules, which it says cap tandem altitude at 16,500 ft above sea level. The freefall figures below are the operators' "up to" numbers and are identical at NZONE and Skydive Wanaka: up to 25 seconds from 9,000 ft, up to 45 from 12,000 ft, up to 60 from 15,000 ft, at speeds the operators put at 200km/hour.

NZD prices are the operators' official from-prices, and each one is the 9,000 ft entry price. Any USD figure beyond that is an approximate conversion, not an operator price.

Operator-Stated Freefall By Exit Height
9,000 ftup to 25 s
12,000 ftup to 45 s
15,000 ftup to 60 s

9,000 Feet: The Entry Jump And The Only Height For Children

The 9,000 ft jump is the entry option on all three tours. NZONE shows USD 215.27 per person at this height, the 3-Hour Wanaka Skydive shows USD 210.16, and Wanaka Skydive, Transfers Included shows USD 221.25. In the operators' own NZD pricing, both charge from NZD 379 at 9,000 ft, with the Wanaka transfer version at NZD 399. Freefall runs up to 25 seconds.

For children, this is the only option. NZONE's FAQ states that children 12 years and under are permitted to skydive from a maximum height of 9,000 ft, and Skydive Wanaka's terms carry the same cap. Every child is assessed on the day by the Tandem Master regardless. Minimum age is 6 at both operators.

The listing itineraries describe the same sequence at any height: briefing, gear, the climb to altitude, the jump, freefall, and time under canopy. Skydive Wanaka's booking page describes a roughly 20-minute scenic flight over the Southern Alps before exit, with call-outs of Mt Cook, Mt Aspiring, lakes and the Clutha River. At NZONE, the operator's price page gives a flight to altitude of 15 to 20 minutes. Canopy time at NZONE is 3 to 4 minutes per its FAQ. Nothing about the 9,000 ft jump changes the check-in, coach or transfer arrangements described elsewhere on this page; only the exit height and the freefall length differ.

12,000 Feet: The Middle Option

The 12,000 ft jump nearly doubles the freefall: up to 45 seconds against up to 25 at the entry height, in the operators' figures. Both operators price it from NZD 469, a step of NZD 90 above their 9,000 ft from-price. The Wanaka-only listing sits at NZD 469 on the operator's prices page.

The booking pages do not treat 12,000 ft as a separate product. It is the same listing, the same check-in at 35 Shotover Street or Wanaka Airport, and the same inclusions; you select the height when you book.

A grass airfield apron with an orange windsock and a small white plane in the distance with a snowy range beyond

12,000 ft gives up to 45 seconds of freefall for NZD 90 more than 9,000 ft. 15,000 ft gives up to 60 seconds for a further NZD 106 over the 12,000 ft price, at both NZONE and Skydive Wanaka. Children 12 and under cannot select this height. For everyone else, both operators offer it on every listing sold here, subject to the same weather calls, the same weight assessments and the same 24-hour free cancellation as the other heights.

15,000 Feet: The Longest Freefall

The top height sold by either operator is 15,000 ft, with freefall of up to 60 seconds, the operators' longest "up to" figure. Pricing runs from NZD 575 at both NZONE and Skydive Wanaka, and NZD 595 for the Wanaka jump with the Queenstown return transfer.

At NZONE, the operator's price page gives the flight to altitude as 15 to 20 minutes, and the FAQ puts it at about 15 minutes from 15,000 ft. 15,000 ft is the highest exit listed for NZONE here, and NZONE's two Cessna Grand Caravan aircraft carry up to 9 customers each.

A tandem skydive pair under an open canopy seen from far below against a clear sky above brown hills and a long lake

Children 12 and under cannot jump from this height; both operators cap them at 9,000 ft. Otherwise the eligibility rules are unchanged from the lower heights: minimum weight of 40 kg at NZONE, 30 kg at Wanaka, minimum height 1.2 m, and assessments from 95 kg. The extra NZD 106 over the 12,000 ft price buys up to 15 more seconds of freefall, from up to 45 to up to 60. Whether that difference matters is a personal call; the numbers here are the only basis for it.

How To Choose Between The Three Heights

The ladder is simple to read. Each step up buys more freefall for more money: up to 25 seconds from NZD 379, up to 45 from NZD 469, up to 60 from NZD 575 at either operator. The biggest jump in seconds comes between 9,000 and 12,000 ft, up to 20 extra seconds for NZD 90. The next NZD 106 buys up to 15 more.

Children 12 and under have no choice; both operators cap them at 9,000 ft. Travellers over 95 kg face assessments at any height, so the height decision does not change weight rules. Nothing in the operators' data says a higher jump is better or safer than a lower one; the differences on record are exit height, freefall seconds and price.

Every Queenstown tandem skydive on this site begins at one of two check-in points. The NZONE Skydive jump starts at the NZONE Skydive Centre, 35 Shotover Street, Queenstown 9300, where a courtesy coach carries jumpers out to the drop zone at 786 Kingston Road, Drift Bay, on Lake Wakatipu. The coach is included in the price. Self-driving is allowed, but the operator requires everyone to check in at the Shotover Street centre first.

The Skydive Wanaka products work differently. The 3-Hour Wanaka Skydive listing meets at 14 Mustang Lane, Wanaka Airport, with jumps landing at a private farm nearby; the operator offers a Wanaka i-SITE shuttle pickup at 103 Ardmore Street that must be selected at booking, and the operator asks passengers to arrive 10 minutes early. The transfer version, Wanaka Skydive, Transfers Included, also ends up at Wanaka Airport, but its meeting point is back at the NZONE Skydive Centre on Shotover Street in Queenstown, with a return coach of about 1.5 hours each way.

The operators share one pickup page, which treats NZONE and Skydive Wanaka side by side: NZONE's shuttle runs from the Shotover Street centre to Drift Bay, while Skydive Wanaka's Queenstown transfer departs from the same centre on its scheduled days.

Neither operator offers hotel pickup. NZONE runs its coach from its Skydive Centre at 35 Shotover Street; the Wanaka tours instead meet at the Wanaka i-SITE shuttle point or use the 35 Shotover Street transfer. If a hotel stay is part of your plan, getting yourself to Shotover Street, or to Wanaka Airport, is on you.

Spectator rules also differ by location. NZONE takes spectators free of charge if bus space allows, not guaranteed, with a maximum of one per customer. At Skydive Wanaka, friends and family are welcome at the airport base, but the landing farm has no safe viewing area.

Getting To Shotover Street

Staying close to the NZONE Skydive Centre removes the morning scramble. Three options sit at different budgets. Melbourne Lodge, a budget pick, is a short walk east of the town centre and the Shotover Street skydive centre. Ramada By Wyndham Queenstown Central, a mid-range choice, sits on Frankton Road, a walk from the centre where the NZONE coach leaves from Shotover Street. Sofitel Queenstown Hotel And Spa, the upper option, is in the town centre, steps from Shotover Street where the NZONE Skydive Centre check-in is.

Self-Driving To Drift Bay

Driving yourself to the NZONE drop zone at 786 Kingston Road, Drift Bay, is permitted, though parking there is limited. The operator's pickup page advises looking for NZONE signage, because a temporary access road sits about 600 m before the usual entrance off SH6. Even self-drivers must first check in at the Skydive Centre in town.

The Early Wanaka Transfer

The Queenstown departure for the Wanaka transfer is scheduled from 6.45am on its operating days, which makes a night near Shotover Street the practical choice. The listing puts the coach ride at about 1.5 hours each way to Wanaka Airport, and the whole outing runs up to 6 hours. If the 3-Hour Wanaka Skydive is your pick instead, the morning starts in Wanaka: make your own way to the airport base, or select the Wanaka i-SITE shuttle point at 103 Ardmore Street when booking and arrive 10 minutes early.

Hotel pickup is not offered on any of the three tours, so the meeting point you choose is the one you travel to under your own arrangements.

When To Book A Queenstown Tandem Skydive: Seasons, Weather Holds And Rebooking

Tandem pair landing in a paddock near Arrowtown

NZONE's FAQ states that it jumps seven days a week. Skydive Wanaka's operating days are not stated, and it jumps in daylight hours when weather is good. Wind and cloud decide whether a load flies. Skydive Wanaka states plainly that it does not jump in strong wind or complete cloud cover.

Bookings carry a check-in time, not a jump time. NZONE tells customers to plan for a whole day even though its experience runs about 3.5 hours from check-in to return, and Skydive Wanaka estimates around 3 hours at the airport.

Skydive Wanaka's Queenstown transfer listing advises booking your first available day and keeping a spare day free. That way, if the weather holds you on day one, the next suitable slot does not collide with your flight home.

On seasons, neither operator states a closure period. Winter calls for warm layers, and the operators suggest clothing suited to the season. No temperature or rainfall figures appear on the operator pages, and no month is singled out as the time to jump. The practical seasonal question is how much schedule margin you leave.

  1. Check-in time, not jump timeBookings carry a check-in time; operators say to plan for a whole day (NZONE 3 to 3.5 hours from arrival, Skydive Wanaka around 3).
  2. Wind and cloud decideSkydive Wanaka: no jumps in strong wind or complete cloud cover; call 30 minutes before the booking time to check.
  3. Rebooking comes firstBoth operators rebook to the next suitable slot, later that day or the next day at Skydive Wanaka. Moving to a higher-value option means paying the difference.
  4. Refund only if rebooking failsBoth operators refund in full if no other trip can be arranged. Deciding not to jump once in the air gets no refund (Skydive Wanaka terms).
  5. Your own cancellationFree up to 24 hours before departure, then the full fee applies; a booking stays valid 12 months from the original departure date.
  6. What operators may changeNZONE reserves the right to change aircraft, drop zone, altitude, freefall duration and times without a refund claim.

Before setting out, Skydive Wanaka asks customers to call 30 minutes before the booking time to check conditions. It is a small step that can save a wasted drive to the airport.

What Happens If The Weather Holds You

Every tandem skydive needs favourable weather, and the operators say so directly. NZONE needs good weather for the jump; if poor conditions cancel it, the operator offers a different date or a full refund. The mechanics of that choice follow a fixed order.

Rebooking And Paying A Difference

Rebooking comes first. Both operators move weather-held customers to the next suitable slot, later that day or the next day at Skydive Wanaka. If you switch to a higher-value option during the rebooking, you pay the difference. Moving to a lower-value product refunds the difference. A move to a different altitude on the ladder falls under the same rule.

When A Refund Applies

A full refund applies only when no other trip can be arranged. Both operators state this. NZONE reserves the right to change aircraft, drop zone, altitude, freefall duration and times without a refund claim. One edge case comes from the Skydive Wanaka terms: deciding not to jump once you are in the air brings no refund, so the decision point is on the ground.

Cancelling Yourself

Cancellation is free up to 24 hours before departure on all three tours. Inside 24 hours, the full fee applies. A booking stays valid for 12 months from the original departure date. A booking not used in that time is forfeited. NZONE allows rescheduling any number of times until 24 hours before departure. Lesser-value product swaps get no refund.

Two smaller points sit in the terms. NZONE applies a 1.2 percent card surcharge on non-NZ-Eftpos payments at the drop zone and on phone payments. And Skydive Wanaka's phone lines run 9am to 5pm, so weather checks and rebooking calls need to fit those hours.

What Is Included, What To Wear, And What Are The Weight And Age Limits?

What Is Included

NZONE bundles the round-trip coach from 35 Shotover Street with the full gear set: jumpsuit, gloves, hat and goggles. The Skydive Wanaka experience fits you with a jumpsuit, hat or helmet, goggles, gloves and spare hoodies at the airport base, and on-site lockers hold valuables while you jump. The goggles fit over glasses, and contacts are fine at both operators.

What is not included matters just as much. NZONE Skydive excludes hotel pickup and drop-off and any photo and video package. The 3-Hour Wanaka Skydive does not include photo and video either; the packages are bought as add-ons at check-in. Photos and video are paid add-ons at NZONE Skydive and the 3-hour Wanaka skydive, not part of the ticket price.

What To Wear

Both operators ask for closed, secure footwear. Skydive Wanaka rules out jandals and bare feet outright, and NZONE specifies secure enclosed tie-up shoes. Beyond shoes, dress for the season: warm layers in winter, lighter clothing in summer. Skydive Wanaka also passes along a simple instruction: eat normally before you jump.

What To Bring

Government-issued photo ID is required for everyone on arrival at the drop zone, per the operator terms. Leave personal cameras and smart glasses behind for the jump itself: the NZPIA safety rule bans them, and both operators enforce it. Media comes from the operator's own camera packages instead.

Weight Limits

The two operators set different minimum weights, so check the requirement for your jump before booking. NZONE sets a minimum of 40 kg; Skydive Wanaka sets 30 kg. Both require a minimum height of 1.2 m and a harness that fits. At 95 kg or more, a Tandem Master assessment takes place at the drop zone, and Skydive Wanaka asks heavier customers to tell Reservations before the jump date. Over 110 kg triggers an extra assessment by a Drop Zone Safety Officer or Tandem Master at both. The operators state that at most drop zones the maximum limit is 110 to 115 kg, though no exact maximum is published by either.

Weight surcharges appear only for Skydive Wanaka: NZD 50 at 95 to 104.9 kg, NZD 75 at 105 to 114.9 kg, and NZD 100 at 115 kg and over, payable at check-in. NZONE states no surcharge amounts on its pages.

Age And Consent

Minimum age is 6 at both operators, by law per their terms. Children 12 and under jump from a maximum of 9,000 ft, and every child is assessed on the day by the Tandem Master. Under 18s need written parental or guardian consent, with a parent or guardian present at the drop zone or consent documents arranged in advance. There is no maximum age: NZONE records passengers up to 94 years, and Skydive Wanaka's oldest passenger was 92.

Medical And Safety Rules

Tell the operator before booking about recent injuries or surgery, mobility limits, epilepsy, high blood pressure, angina or heart conditions. A doctor's medical clearance may be required. At NZONE, accessibility needs call for a doctor's certificate plus a Drop Zone Safety Officer assessment, and the officer's decision is final.

Two timing rules sit in the terms for everyone. No alcohol or recreational drugs within 8 hours of the scheduled jump time, and intoxicated customers may be refused with no refund. No scuba diving within 24 hours of the jump. On the day, a cold, flu or blocked sinuses can cause complications, so flag it. Personal cameras and smart glasses are banned on the jump under the NZPIA safety requirement at both operators.

Queenstown Tandem Skydive FAQ

Open jump plane door above Frankton Arm
How Much Does A Queenstown Tandem Skydive Cost?

Entry prices per person start at USD 215.27 for NZONE Skydive, USD 210.16 for the 3-Hour Wanaka Skydive, and USD 221.25 for Wanaka Skydive, Transfers Included. The operators' official from-prices at 12,000 ft are NZD 469 each, working out to about USD 266 at NZONE, and at 15,000 ft NZD 575, about USD 327 at NZONE. Higher altitudes cost more; the booking pages display the 9,000 ft figure only.

How Long Is The Freefall From 15,000 Feet?

Both operators quote freefall as an up-to figure. At 15,000 ft it is up to 60 seconds. At 12,000 ft the operators say up to 45 seconds, and at 9,000 ft up to 25 seconds. NZONE describes speeds of 200km/hour during freefall, and its pages list a 15-20 minute flight to altitude with 3-4 minutes under canopy. Skydive Wanaka's itinerary describes about 5 minutes under canopy before landing.

How Long Does The Whole Skydive Trip Take?

NZONE Skydive runs about 3.5 hours from check-in on Shotover Street to return, and its terms say to plan for a whole day. The 3-Hour Wanaka Skydive is around 3 hours at the airport base. Wanaka Skydive, Transfers Included allows up to 6 hours door to door, with roughly 1.5 hours of coach travel each way between Queenstown and Wanaka Airport.

What Is The Weight Limit And Are There Surcharges?

Minimum weights differ: NZONE requires 40 kg, Skydive Wanaka 30 kg, both with a minimum height of 1.2 m. At 95 kg or more each operator applies a Tandem Master assessment at the drop zone; Skydive Wanaka asks you to tell Reservations beforehand. For Skydive Wanaka, surcharges payable at check-in are 50 at 95-104.9 kg, 75 at 105-114.9 kg and 100 at 115 kg and over (currency not stated). NZONE states no surcharge amounts.

What Is The Minimum Age For A Tandem Skydive?

Both NZONE Skydive and Skydive Wanaka set a minimum age of 6, which their terms state is by law in New Zealand. There is no stated maximum age at either operator. Anyone under 18 needs written parental or guardian consent, and a parent or guardian must be present at the drop zone or consent documents arranged with staff beforehand. All children are assessed on the day by the Tandem Master.

Can Children Jump From 15,000 Feet?

No. Both operators state that children 12 years and under are permitted to skydive from a maximum height of 9,000 ft. Every child is assessed on the day by the Tandem Master regardless of altitude. So a family booking at NZONE or Skydive Wanaka with a jumper aged 12 or under would take the 9,000 ft option, which carries up to 25 seconds of freefall according to the operators' figures.

What Should I Wear For The Jump?

Both operators ask for secure enclosed tie-up shoes; Skydive Wanaka rules out jandals and bare feet. Wear clothing suited to the season, with warm layers in winter. Gear provided on the day includes a jumpsuit, gloves, hat or helmet and goggles. NZONE says its goggles fit over glasses and contacts are fine, and Skydive Wanaka says the same. Government-issued photo ID is required on arrival at the drop zone.

Can I Take My Own Camera Or Phone On The Jump?

No. Cameras and smart glasses are not allowed on the jump at either operator, a rule both attribute to NZPIA safety requirements. Skydive Wanaka adds that observers cannot fly either, as everyone aboard wears a parachute. Both operators sell photo and video packages at check-in, from NZD 220 up to NZD 395.

Is Photo And Video Included In The Price?

None of the three tours here include it. Photo and video are paid add-ons bought at check-in. NZONE lists Handicam at NZD 220, Freefall at NZD 333 and the Ultimate Combo at NZD 395. Skydive Wanaka lists Essential from NZD 220, Freefall Photos and Video from NZD 333 and Ultimate from NZD 395. Prices include GST. Some packages cannot be pre-booked and depend on availability on the day.

What Happens If The Weather Cancels My Jump?

Skydives need favourable weather, so no operator promises the jump on the booked day. Skydive Wanaka does not jump in strong wind or complete cloud cover and suggests calling 30 minutes before the booking time. Both operators rebook first, to a later slot or another day, with any higher-value change costing the difference. A full refund applies only when no other trip can be arranged.

Can I Cancel My Booking For Free?

All three tours offer free cancellation up to 24 hours before departure. Inside 24 hours the full fee applies. Both operators allow rescheduling any number of times until 24 hours before, and a booking stays valid for 12 months from the original departure date before it is forfeited. Lesser-value product swaps receive no refund under NZONE's terms. Card surcharges of 1.2 percent apply to certain NZONE payments.

Is There A Coach From Queenstown To The Jump?

NZONE Skydive includes a free return coach from its Skydive Centre at 35 Shotover Street to the drop zone at Drift Bay, running seven days a week. Skydive Wanaka's base is at Wanaka Airport; its Queenstown transfer option adds a return coach from 35 Shotover Street, about 1.5 hours each way, on Monday, Wednesday, Friday and Sunday from 19 October 2026.

What Medical Conditions Need A Doctor's Check Before Skydiving?

NZONE asks you to disclose recent injuries or surgery, mobility limits, epilepsy, high blood pressure, angina and heart conditions before booking, and a doctor's medical clearance may be needed. Accessibility needs require a doctor's certificate plus a Drop Zone Safety Officer assessment, whose decision is final. A cold, flu or blocked sinuses on the day can cause complications. A previously dislocated shoulder does not prevent jumping but must be declared.

Can I Drink Alcohol Or Go Scuba Diving Before A Jump?

Neither is allowed close to a jump. Both operators prohibit alcohol and recreational drugs within 8 hours of the scheduled jump time, and anyone intoxicated may be refused with no refund. Scuba diving is not permitted within 24 hours of a scheduled jump under the same terms. Skydive Wanaka also advises eating normally on the day. These rules appear in the terms of both NZONE and Skydive Wanaka.

Is There Hotel Pickup For The Skydive?

No. None of the three tours picks you up from your accommodation. NZONE's coach departs from the NZONE Skydive Centre at 35 Shotover Street, and self-drivers must still check in there first. The Wanaka transfer tour also leaves from 35 Shotover Street. The 3-Hour Wanaka Skydive meets at 14 Mustang Lane, Wanaka Airport, with a Wanaka i-SITE shuttle point at 103 Ardmore Street selected at booking, arriving 10 minutes early.
